Lesson Number Twenty-Four

“As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby”

[1 Peter 2:2]

Question Number 24

Question. What is the meaning of this commandment?

Answer. That we should preserve, not shorten the life or health of ourselves or of others.

The operative words are the “innocent blood”.

“That innocent blood be not shed in thy land, which the Lord thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, and so blood be upon thee. [Deuteronomy 19:10]

A man’s, or a woman’s, or a child’s life (even the baby in the womb) is so precious. God shows how precious it is, by requiring the offender (or the murderer) to pay the highest price.

“And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man's brother will I require the life of man. [Genesis 9:5]

“Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.” [Genesis 9:6]
