FAQ:

Why do you call this mission an arm of Antioch Baptist Church?

·        The Baptists of 100 years ago used this term to speak of a group from a church who would meet and have services in another place.

·        We use an arm to reach for things. This mission is an outreach arm of the church.

·        An arm, even when stretched out, is still a part of the body. This mission is not a separate church but is a real part of Antioch Baptist Church.

·        An arm is under the control of the body. This mission is directed by the sending church.

What is the purpose of this arm?

·        This arm is a preaching and teaching station where people can hear the word of God, come to know Jesus as Saviour, grow in the Lord, and serve Him.

·        This arm operates as a new headquarters in another community established to take the gospel and the truth of God’s word to the people of that community.

·        This arm offers a place for believers to encourage one another, serve God together, and grow in the knowledge and understanding of God and His word.

Is this a new church?

·        It is not a new church at this point. However, if God blesses these efforts, we would at some point establish a new, entirely independent Baptist church from this mission.

What if no church is established from this arm?

·        If God does not bless these efforts by establishing a people who can become a separate church, that is His business.

·        However, we will still know that we have brought the gospel to this community in a determined way and we are sure that God will never fail to bless the publishing of His word—a word that never returns to Him void and always accomplishes that which He pleases.

Distinctives:

Antioch Baptist Mission is established on the belief that, even in an area of the country with a multitude of churches, there is a great need for more churches and preaching stations with certain foundational beliefs and practices. We are not against the good people who are already doing a work for the Lord but only want to extend that work. What follows are a list of several key foundational principles:

·        King James Bible – We are committed to the absolute authority of the King James Bible. We do not change or alter it in our preaching or teaching but believe in its perfection. Many find it refreshing to hear the word of God taught and preached without a continual correcting of the text. Such a practice makes for stronger Christians and stronger churches.

·        Baptist Distinctives – We are distinctively Baptist. We practice believer’s baptism by immersion, recognize the independence of the local church, the two ordinances, a saved and baptized membership, and other distinctive qualities of being a Baptist.

·        World Missions – This refers to the support of worldwide missions by the congregation. It means that the congregation is in some way actively involved in sending missionaries to other places and countries.

·        Local Outreach – We believe in a direct witnessing outreach into the community and area in which the church is located. This may be a visitation program, a street ministry, a bus ministry, or another form of outreach. There must be some active way in which the church reaches out to the lost and backslidden in its community.

·        Both Preaching and Teaching - A strong local church requires strong preaching. The preaching must challenge the people to action. It must reprove them for their sins. But this preaching must be balanced with solid Bible teaching. The people of God will dry up and die without the meaty teaching of the word of God. They should be taught the books of the Bible and the doctrines of the Bible. New believers need to be given the basics of discipleship.

·        Emphasis on Holy Living - Christians ought to live like Christians. They should live holy lives that are separate from the world. A biblical church should emphasis this kind of living. Some churches have a list of standards that they continually preach but still fail to develop inner holiness in their members. The emphasis should be on both inner and outer expressions of holiness in our lives.

·        Faithful in Music - To be faithful in music means to be faithful to the doctrinal hymns of the past. It means to emphasize congregational singing. It means to avoid contemporary “Christian” music (CCM) on the one hand and the dance-hall boogey beat on the other hand. It means to avoid extreme entertainment and strong drum-like beats in the music. The music must glorify God, encourage godly living, and teach the true doctrines of faith.

Salvation Message:

The Bible teaches us that all people are guilty of sin and unable to stand before the holy God. However, through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross, God has made a way for those who come to God to receive eternal life. What follows is a very brief summary of the way to come to God.

·        Realize your sinful condition and that these sins will send you to hell.

o       “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” Romans 3:23

o       “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23

·        Repent, that is, turn away from your sins and turn unto God to follow Him alone.

o       “Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.” Acts 20:21

·        Believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins and that he arose from the dead the third day.

o       “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Romans 10:9-10

·        Accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour, and call on His name in prayer asking Him to save you.

o       “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Romans 10:13

Challenging Quiz for Christians:

Are you a Christian? Do you know for sure that you have trusted in Jesus Christ as your Saviour and that your death would take you immediately into the presence of God? If you can answer yes to these questions, then we can certainly rejoice with you. But let me ask you some other questions; questions that I hope you will carefully consider:

·        A hundred years after you are dead, what will it matter that you ever lived?

·        Does the devil ever get a report on you from his evil spirits about the trouble you are causing him?

·        How long has it been since you shed a tear for a lost soul?

·        What would God have to do to break your heart for Him and eternal things?

·        Is your life empty or filled with frivolous things? (They are one and the same)

·        Are you closer to God today than you were a year ago?

·        Make a list of the things you do that are seen as important in heaven. Go ahead and make the list. Your record is being kept in heaven anyway. Have you considered what your record looks like?

God established His church in order to correct, challenge, encourage, and guide His people. In church, believers get to know one another, help one another, and work together to accomplish things of eternal importance. Are you ready to serve God with all your heart? Do you desire to do something really important; to make a difference? If so, we invite you to Antioch Baptist Mission. We would be thrilled to have you come.
