It is a bad thing to do … to destroy a “hedge”. A “hedge” is meant by God to be a protection. It is meant for a defense for a man.

Hedge of ThornsThe word “hedge” is found nine times in the Bible.

Every time the word “hedge” shows up in the BOOK we can see it is God behind the placement of the “hedge”.

It is God that makes the hedges.

Anyone who destroys a “hedge” is going to get into trouble. “He that diggeth a pit shall fall into it; and whoso breaketh an hedge, a serpent shall bite him.” [Ecclesiastes 10:8]

It is a bad thing to do … to destroy a “hedge”. A “hedge” is meant by God to be a protection. It is meant for a defense for a man.

But, when a “hedge” is taken down, or is taken away by God, it is for the destruction of those who were protected by the “hedge”.

This is the very thing we see in Isaiah chapter five, in verse five: “And now go to; I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard: I will take away the hedge thereof, and it shall be eaten up; and break down the wall thereof, and it shall be trodden down:” [Isaiah 5:5].

When the hedge is gone, all WHO lived within will be destroyed.
Please, my friend, see these things.

They are true:

• A hedge is good.

• A hedge is from God.

• A hedge is a bound.

• A hedge is a limit.

• A hedge is a fence.

• A hedge is a border.

• A hedge is protection.

• A hedge is blessing.

• Without the hedge … bad things happen.

• Without the hedge … God’s blessings are withheld.

• Without the hedge … is chaos.

• Without the hedge … is lawlessness.

• Without the hedge … the enemy comes in.

• Without the hedge … is the loss of your heritage.

• Without the hedge … is your destruction.

• Without the hedge … is the loss of all blessings.

Consider Job: “Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.” [Job 1:10]

Who is speaking here? Why, it is the Devil himself who is speaking. Now, can Satan tell the truth? Well, he certainly can! He will USE the truth if he can use it to his advantage … to gain the upper hand against God, or one of the servants of God. The Devil recognized that it was God Who set up the hedges in Job’s life.

• It is true … that God made the “hedge” around Job.

• It is true … that God made a “hedge” around his house.

• It is true … that God blessed the work of Job’s hands.

• It is true … that the “hedge” made Job’s substance to be increased in the land.

The presence of the “hedge” brings all things that are good to the person, or persons, that have those hedges. Let me go further than that.

The man of God … in any age … is a hedge to his nation. The Lord seeks such men and women. Look in Ezekiel with me in chapter thirteen, verse five: “Ye have not gone up into the gaps, neither made up the hedge for the house of Israel to stand in the battle in the day of the Lord.” [Ezekiel 13:5]

The righteous man or woman in an unrighteous nation is standing in the gap for that land, which restrains God’s judgment. [This same thing is true today. The standing in the gap by a believer in Jesus Christ will restrain God from destroying a nation otherwise deserving of judgment.] You can see this thing for yourself in Ezekiel chapter twenty-two, verse thirty: “And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none.” [Ezekiel 22:30]

One of the preparations involved in planting a vineyard is to “set an hedge about it”. The hedge’s purpose is to protect the vineyard. [Mark 12:1] “And he began to speak unto them by parables. A certain man planted a vineyard, and set an hedge about it, and digged a place for the winefat, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country.”

a. The “hedge” for a son is his father and mother. Fathers and mothers … prepare “hedges” for your son. Protect him!

b. The “hedge” for a daughter is her father and mother. Fathers and mothers … prepare “hedges” for your daughter. Protect her!

c. A “hedge” for a husband is his wife. Wives … prepare “hedges” for your husband. Protect him!

d. The “hedge” for a wife is her husband. Husbands … prepare “hedges” for your wife. Protect her!

e. The “hedge” for a family is the man. Husbands and fathers … prepare “hedges” for your family. Protect your family!

f. The “hedge” for a local church is the pastor. Pastors … prepare “hedges” for your flock. Protect your sheep!

g. The “hedge” for Israel is her prophets. The prophets … prepared “hedges” for Israel in obedience to God. Amen!

h. The “hedge” for Israel is God. God will protect them!

i. The “hedge” for the Church of the Firstborn is Jesus Christ HIMSELF!

j. The “hedge” for a Bible-believing Christian is God. Amen!

Remember this, every time we see a “hedge” showing up in the Bible … we can see that it is God behind that “hedge”.

It is God that makes up the “hedges” for a man, or a woman, or a nation.

We have also seen how trouble will come … every time … whenever someone destroys a “hedge”. “He that diggeth a pit shall fall into it; and whoso breaketh an hedge, a serpent shall bite him.” [Ecclesiastes 10:8]

Therefore, we can safely conclude with this. It is a bad thing to destroy a hedge.

A “hedge” is meant by God to be a protection. It is meant for a defense for man, or a nation.
